I’m broken and on clearance

When I turned to the clearance section at Hobby Lobby, I was browsing through the slim selections of goodies until I saw this and audibly gasped. My heart skipped a beat and I wanted it. I immediately clutched it and placed it into my cart.

I didn’t want it for the trendy, modern look of the simple letters in the wooden frame. I didn’t want it just because it was a clearance item half off the sale price. I didn’t even want it simply for the words that were in it (although that was a part of why I wanted it).

I wanted it because it was broken.

Right across the white, smooth porcelain, there was a crack that could cut you if you traced your fingers along it just right. Yet, it was all intact within the dented, imperfect wooden frame.

It‘s broken, sitting on a clearance shelf for $4.98, but grace is engraved on its image.

It’s just like me, I gasped. Broken, marked down, and in the leftover pile, but grace was what bought me, saved me, engraved in my life as Christ made me whole through His substitutionary atonement.

And now I stand whole in a dented earthly body that is valued so highly by God that He made it a dwelling place for His spirit.

The scars of past and current sin can still cut me if I trace my fingers along them just right but I am still whole because of His grace.

Not marked down in the leftover pile by the world, but lifted up by Him and priceless to Him who made me and gave me life through His Son.

I must never cease remembering this amazing gift, the beauty of His truths, and the gift of His grace.

Remember this when you feel left out, leftover, broken, and marked down that you were bought and valued so highly that God wants to use your body for His spirit to do the work He created you to do. Whether it’s homeschooling, encouraging your husband, taking care of your dying mother and friend, evangelizing to homeless people, or flying to your mission field across the globe, Christ has great work through you because of your brokenness being made whole by His amazing grace.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8-10‬
